Job Descriptions

The following are brief descriptions and requirements of the positions offered at Cone Construction. These descriptions are not meant to be all-inclusive and may change at any time without notice.


Project Manager/Estimator

REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent with at least two years management experience at the Assistant Manager/Estimator level. Must be able to understand and interpret contract drawings and specifications. Candidates should also have basic surveying knowledge and the ability to understand and use a transit, level and pipe laser.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Acquiring work to bid, including take-offs and estimating for bidding projects, submittal and shop drawing review; budgeting; scheduling materials, subcontractors and labor; quantitative measurements for billings; quality control, quantity tracking; coordinating and directing project superintendents; insuring compliance with plans and specifications; managing cost of project; producing monthly cost reports; and insuring safety first attitude.

Assistant Project Manager/Estimator

REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent (either in process or completed). Must be able to understand and interpret contract drawings and specifications. Candidates should also have basic surveying knowledge and the ability to understand and use a transit, level and pipe laser.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Acquiring work to bid, including take-offs and estimating for bidding projects, submittal and shop drawing review; budgeting; scheduling materials, subcontractors and labor; quantitative measurements for billings; quality control, quantity tracking; insuring compliance with plans and specifications, schedule and budget; and insuring safety first attitude.

Project Superintendent

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Two years management experience at least foreman level. Must be able to understand and interpret contract drawings and specifications. Candidates should also have basic surveying knowledge and the ability to understand and use a transit, level and pipe laser. Must have basic understanding of heavy equipment operation and maintenance, ability to read grading stakes, and ability to operate safely around existing utilities. This position requires organization and ability to direct a fast-paced project.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct day-to-day field construction activities for jobsite operations, including directing and supervising multiple subcontractors and employees, ensuring safety, quality and efficient production at all times. Must be able to properly lay out a project and read and understand plans and specifications.

Foreman

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must be able to understand and interpret contract drawings and specifications. Candidates should also have basic surveying knowledge and the ability to understand and use a transit, level and pipe laser. Must have basic understanding of heavy equipment operation and maintenance, ability to read grading stakes, and ability to operate safely around existing utilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate and direct crews for work assigned, ensuring safety, quality and efficient production at all times. Develop labor, ensure a safe work environment, and ensure proper and timely installation of assigned projects.

Carpenter

Must have 5 years experience on heavy engineering/industrial projects. Expected to be able to read plans and specs, use automatic level and transit in building layout and operate power tools. Must be able to lift objects up to approximately 100 lbs, to climb in and out of trenches, be able to stoop and bend, and have the strength and physical endurance to perform various tasks required by a physically demanding job.

Laborer

Must have at least one year of construction experience. General work consisting of backfill (with shovel), use of hand tools and some equipment. Expected to have some skill in concrete placement. Must be able to lift objects up to approximately 100 lbs, to climb in and out of trenches, be able to stoop and bend, and have the strength and physical endurance to perform various tasks required by a physically demanding job.

Cement Mason

Must have three years heavy engineering/industrial experience. Must have good skills in placing and finishing concrete. Must be able to lift objects up to approximately 100 lbs, to climb in and out of trenches, be able to stoop and bend, and have the strength and physical endurance to perform various tasks required by a physically demanding job.

Iron Worker

Must have three years heavy engineering/industrial experience. Must have experience in placing reinforcing steel and be able to work in high places. Must be able to lift objects up to approximately 100 lbs, to climb in and out of trenches, be able to stoop and bend, and have the strength and physical endurance to perform various tasks required by a physically demanding job.

Equipment Operator

Must have 4-5 years experience as an operator and have skill in operating various types of construction equipment. Must be able to read grading stakes. Must be highly aware of safety considerations at all times. Should be ready to perform other types of construction work when there is no need for an operator. Must be able to lift objects up to approximately 100 lbs, to climb in and out of trenches, be able to stoop and bend, and have the strength and physical endurance to perform various tasks required by a physically demanding job.

Truck Driver

Must have 3-5 years experience as an operator or water trucks, tandem dump trucks, service trucks and/or travel trailers. Must have current Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with necessary endorsements. Must be highly aware of safety considerations at all times. Should be ready to perform other types of construction work when there is no need for a driver. Must be able to lift objects up to approximately 100 lbs, to climb in and out of trenches, be able to stoop and bend, and have the strength and physical endurance to perform various tasks required by a physically demanding job. Must have clean driving record, and be insurable through our current insurance carrier.

Project Coordinator

Must have high school diploma or equivalent, but undergraduate degree in business administration or English preferred. Construction experience preferred. Assists Project Management/Estimating in day-to-day activities including contracting, scheduling, submittals, bidding process, bonding and insurance requirements. Applicant must be computer literate with a minimum of five years extensive experience using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher. Strong typing and grammar skills are a must. Duties will require strong attention to detail while working under tight time constraints. Must be a self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to work autonomously while managing multiple priorities.

Office Assistant/Receptionist

Performs a range of basic office support activities, such as answering phones and directing calls, greeting and directing visitors, answering questions and performing routine clerical, data entry and/or word processing work as assigned. Must have high school diploma or equivalent and three to five years directly related experience. Must also have computer proficiency in MS Office and be able to type a minimum of 40 WPM.
